The Trojans signed three high school players on the first day of the early signing period.

LITTLE ROCK – UALR head men’s basketball coach Steve Shields announced the addition of three high school players on Wednesday, receiving signed National Letters of Intent from a trio of Texas preps. Joining the Trojans in 2010-11 will be high school standouts Reggie Sonnier (Carrollton, Texas/Carrollton Creekview HS), Daylon Guy (Fort Worth, Texas/Eastern Hills HS) and Gus Leeper (Austin, Texas/Austin Westlake HS).

“We were targeting high school players in this class because of the high number of upper classmen we’ll have next year,” said Shields. “All three of these guys are high-character young men and I feel like those are the kinds of players we’ve had success with.”

6-3, 175 lbs., Guard
Carrollton, Texas // Carrollton Creekview HS

A 6-3 left-handed guard, Sonnier averaged 18 points and six rebounds per game as a junior to lead Carrollton Creekview HS to a spot in the Class 5A State playoffs. In a match up with the top-ranked Cedar Hill Longhorns, Sonnier poured in 33 points thanks in part to a 14-of-16 effort at the charity stripe.
“Reggie is a big guard who has a very good mid-range game and is capable of stretching the defense with his three-point shot,” said Shields. “He is going to give us added length on the perimeter. He is someone who could become a very, very solid defender and also score some points for us.”
A varsity letterman since his sophomore year for head coach Jonathan Ellis, Sonnier was ranked the 28th-best prospect in the state by www.TexasHoops.com entering his senior year.
